HELP- 05 Honda Rancher ES 350 "oil filling air box"
Need some advice from someone who has had experience with this problem.
We have a Honda Rancher that has pretty easy miles on it and oil has always been changed when needed at correct weight and level.
However all the sudden it has started pumping all the oil from the engine (crankcase) into the breather box until it is full enough to touch the oil filter. My husband has broke down the engine and nothing seems to be wrong.
Valves good , piston solid and rings look fine. He has alot of experience with engine repair on atv's and dirt bikes but this has us puzzled.
It is not being put on end or rode on steep hills. It is mainly used by our 12 year daughter around the yard on flat ground. She does not ride it hard it never has overheated and does not smoke. It runs really well.
It continues to pump oil into breather box at all times when at idle and while riding so it appears to read low on oil because all the oil is constantly being pumped into breather box.
Does engine oil have gas in it? sometimes float value will bypass or not seal off fuel and fuel will fill carb up an continue flowing gas into intake modifold and get into engine oil cause the oil to be overfill and when engine starts up when piston moves up and down it will pull oil into airbox in order for the movement of crank and piston to move!!!!
papa hogg is probably on the rght track, does airbox smell gassy, is engine over full on oil and smell gassy? needle and seat goes bad in carb and filles airbox with oily ,gassy mixture, then it goes into crankcase

My kids have had mine upside down quite a few times and all is well. Maybe try rolling yours..j/k

My oil level is fine, not filling air box but my carb does over flow. This rancher has hurt me time and time again. I've got the original carb and a brand new one from honda and it still fillls my shop with gas and fills the airbox up. It made me come out of the closet and purchase a new POLARIS
Pro94 you may what to replace petcock assy.[fuel cutoff value assy.] sometimes petcock assy rubber seal inside of value assy. will detearate and let rubber shavings get into fuel system and get under float value needle an won,t let value seal off, the best way to see if petcock is having an problem is to remove fuel from cut off value and turn fuel off then look at value to see if its shuts fuel off[see if fuel stops while value is turned off], can put an inline fuel filter to slow down, but this only temp.fix, if fuel continue flowing IMO replaced cut off assy., I also would replace fuel line also if rubber is detearating in value sometimes you can split the fuel line and can see the same thing happening there also. Just my experince........
