Default TRX300? TRX300X, etc - Honda designations?

OK all of you Honda Gurus,
I have a 1996 2 wd TRX300. It is identified as simply a TRX300 on the frame sticker. However when i go to get oparts, say off of Rockymountains website, they do not have that listed, instead it is a TRX300X, etc.
So i ordered a seat cover from Rocky Mountain - By Quadworks. The website and the Label on the box it came in identify it as for TRX300X 93 - 06.
But it clearly does not fit the seat. I know you have to set them in the sun, and stretch them out, but in this case, the basic shape is all wrong. The seat flares out much wider, more quickly than the cover - and the front does not have the "ears" pointing up like the cover does.

So my question is: do i have a 300, or a 300X or is there a difference?

I would like to figure it out so I get the right parts from now on!

okay, the 300x replaced the 300ex, a sport quad (racing style four wheeler), your most likely looking for the 300 in utility.

Below are 2 pictures:
which one looks like yours?
the first one is a trx300ex, the second one is a trx 300p fourtrax

if its the 2nd pic heres the link you need... i think, but rockymountain has a live chat feature, very helpful

Thanks red,
I had been researching, and came up with what you told me. I have the TRX300P, the farm machine. I had already checked out that link in Rocky Mountain, and no seat covers are listed in the parts list. i will check with their customer support. in the mean time I have found several other sources, for a bit cheaper, just never know for sure about fit, and quality, and most of all delivery time. I'll have to get on the phone monday morning, and do it the old fashioned way!

I have owned both a 1994 TRX300EX and a 1995 TRX300.

The 300X...originally it was the Fourtrax 250X, then the Fourtrax 300EX, then the Sportrax 300EX, now it's a 300X?....it's still the same friggin' machine!!!

Honda's TRX300FW or TRX300 is the utility machine that has set the industry standard for reliability. Their brakes were crap, but they always started and ran.

If you like to DIY, you can find an upholstery shop or fabric store and can buy the vinyl to make a cover yourself. You can even get some wild colors and patterns if you look enough. Use the old one as a pattern to cut to shape the new vinyl. Get a very powerful staple gun, and use short staples.
