I'm back from the darkside
I've been a Honda owner all my life. When I was 5 in 1976, my dad bought me a z50, which I rode daily for 7 years.
After that I had a 1984 XR80, 1985 CR80 and a 1986 250SX.
Since I've been out of the loop for some years, I was trying to decide what I should get. Based upon my riding style, I have settled on the 2005 TRX400EX [I'm in the market for two used quads]. I want the reverse on the '05, but more importantly, what sold me was the low gearing and being able to chug along with out a lot of clutch work. Yea the Z400 is a nice quad, but recently out at the dunes, I did not like riding a Banshee, because I did not like having to wind it up when I was deciding which way to go.
I heard a lot of good things about the Z400, mostly that its fast, but so far, I'm not a big fan of the higher seat height, the frame issues in the early 2003 production run and that it has most of its power in the mid to high end.
Based upon the fact that I just want to ride around, check things out, bring less experienced riders with me and go slow sometimes with out keeping the DOHC engine wound up, I've decided to buy the Honda 400EX. For a month as I researched, I thought about the Z400 a lot, then the KFX400, then the Honda 450R, now I'm back to the 400EX. LOL. It's hard to get Honda out of your system when you have owned a lot of them.
