Honda atv sparks and starts when using the pull rope. When using the electric start it only sparks when you let off the button. I just replaced the CID box and did not help. It does start sometime with the electric start when you let off the start button. Seems like it is getting harder to start that way.

 

Could it be the battery low on charge or going bad?

 

Do the easy (kinda) and free stuff first. Check the battery cables and make sure they're tight and the negative has a good ground. Check the start switch connections and make sure they're not dirty or rusted.

 

This is a common fault, some say cleaning the flywheel and pickup coil for the ignition will cure it. I tried a new coil, battery, starter motor, checked all wiring including earths on one machine with no improvement. The owner got used to using the starter button in short bursts, the engine would fire up when you took your finger off. I've had a couple more do it since and just train owners to use the short burst method.
