2015 Rubicon; Any Interest?

The Rincon is only rated to tow 850 pounds because it hasn't been updated. All the Honda atvs of the last generation were rated at 850 but that in no way means that's all they could pull, it's just what the lawyers at the time felt safe saying. I used to have over 2k pounds attached to my foreman 400 at a time despite the 850 pound towing capacity. The Rincon is probably getting a revision for 2016 where I'm sure it will be bumped up to the 1300 pound capacity of the foreman/rubicon. And get this, it will still have the same 3 speed transmission while doing it.

I guess I mistakenly thought that if you rode the Rincon in ES mode that it somehow gained more gears than if you rode it in automatic mode. 3 gears isn't really enough. I honestly think that Honda keeps it in the lineup because everyone has to have a "big bore" machine though the rincon barely qualifies. For what it costs, it just doesn't give good value. Even used, people want outrageous prices for these, can buy a used Grizzly 700 for about the same or less and its a much better machine in every way.

The Grizzly would most likely be my choice, there are other good options as well. The point was that I think Honda prices the Rincon too high and people selling the used models do as well. I just don't see Yamaha building a 2-up model. I thought they might build a 50" Viking since Honda introduced a smaller 500cc Pioneer model. I could see a 50" wide Viking with the Grizzly 550 engine. Can Am could build a 50" Maverick as well with the 650 or 800 engine or both to compete with the 570 and 900 rzr. I think for the price the 2-up machines cost, most people would rather just have a side by side that you can more comfortably carry 2 or more people and have a cargo box to haul your stuff. The new 50" machines can go on most of the trails that atvs can go on. The new Grizzly 700 for instance is 48" wide. Add some aftermarket wheels and tires and its as wide or wider than 50".

Another clue that the 680 is not a work horse is unlike the Foreman and Rubicon it does not come with a trailer hitch from stock.

Just a FYI, the Honda Pioneer tows the same as the Viking (1500 pounds) and has nearly double the payload capacity of the Viking (600 vs 1000 lbs) using the same engine/trans as the Rincon.

It seems like Honda doesn't know how to market the Rincon. Its not fast enough to be sporty and it doesn't seem to like work either. The Foreman and Rubicon got the facelift for 2015 so it seems like they're the real flagship machines in Honda's lineup. The poor Recon is still basically unchanged except for the plastic since it came out in 1997, talk about overdue. The only thing it has going for it is price, its basically the cheapest adult size atv that you can buy, seen them advertised at a local dealer brand new for $2999. As far as the Pioneer vs the Viking goes, the Viking has considerably more power so while the tow ratings are the same, the Viking honestly will tow more. And the payload is conservative for the Viking. I'm sure Yamaha does that for liability reasons so that they don't get sued because someone crashed because they overloaded the machine.
