I am considering buying a Honda 300ex and have a few questions. Is the Honda 300ex reliable. Have you ever had any problems and if so what are they. Is it ok to buy a used one, I have heard that you are prone to breakdowns if you buy a used sport ATV. Thanks for your help.

My brother has one he bought new in '95. He has ridden it hard and on all kinds of terrain and never had any problems with it at all. He has only had to do routine maintenance and put brakes and bearings and bushings in. They are great in trails and handle well and jump well. Hope you enjoy it if you go with it!

A friend of mine, who is a pretty good HONDA mechanic, son has one. He rides it hard and wide open all the time, His dad says He can't kill it.
I think it's a 95, only thing changed is oil. That
282cc engine is probably the most reliable engine
ever made.

I've had 3 Hondas, and I feel that they make reliable products.

I bought mine in 1998 as a year hold over model.Since then We have drown it 5 times!I did 2200 in damage the 2nd week we had it.

I was racing a kid on another 300ex and his friend on a warrior. We where at St joe state park.Anyway I hit a set of whoops topped out 5th gear.THey where like v's not straight at all.I The bike started swapping back and forth and eventaully started rolling.I broke the steering stem, tie rod, bent the front wheel, and broke all the plastic.I can't believe 1/2 the total price of the quad was mainly plastic!

The only things I have had to replace.(besides the crash damage)Are the rear brake pads.Which I have to do again real soon. Also I have only changed the oil twice!

How is that for reliable?

One of the magazines said something like this: You will wear yourself out before you wear out a 300!!

YZGUY, i think you are correct. I couldn't kill my EX. My wife said the only way I could buy the stroker kit was if the EX died! Well being a pretty good mechanic, guess what? There was a fake death of the EX and now that little quad has some power. That EX is about the most reliable quad I've ever had. Hope this helps you out.

If Honda knows how to do anything it's how to build a reliable torquey four stroke. Pick up a Cycle Trader and take a look at how many Trail 90's from the '60's & 70's you see in there, and most of them are still running strong. The only thing I would be careful about is buying one from a teenager or one that has been highly modified or raced.

BTW- we own three Honda's (four including our generator) and are getting ready to buy another.
