2002 CARB ISSUES (trx350 4X4 FE ES)
#11
I forgot to mention when rebuilding ATV carbs: I almost never buy rebuild kits as there is usually nothing to be replaced.
I DO clean out the gas tank and fuel petcock. I often replace the latter with new Chinese units, which work very well and cost only about $10. The 2 or 3 filters inside the petcock catch most of the crap that comes out of the tank and they are supposed to be cleaned periodically. There is no need for an additional in-line filter.
Honda, as the leader in quads, seems to be the last company to stop making utility quad gas tanks out of steel. If you have steel, you will have rust; it is just a matter of how much and when.
My 96 Honda TRX300FW had rust pinholes in the tank, at the brazed-on bung location. I cut it out and welded in new bung. Plastic tanks are MUCH better. I am not a big fan of coating the inside of steel tanks as our current gas with 10% ethanol seems to attack it.
