Well that sounds promising Merryman, I've read some posts that said they have up to 7000 miles on a similar 400 ATV before replacing the clutch, which sounds a bit more reasonable. Then there others that have 500 miles and they have replaced everything but the seat trying to get the problem fixed, maybe they gave up and sold as none come back and say they got it fixed and what it was. I wouldn't be so concerned if I knew it would fix it and it would stay fixed just don't want to start throwing parts at it and get no where or have to do it again in 900 miles. (way to expensive for me to be driving around), I will keep you posted as to what the shop says in a week when they get it in to the shop. How to the ones you keep up do starting in the winter ?

All the auto shift honda models have sensor problems sooner or later. It is not uncommon.
Start with the angle sensor...it's almost always the angle sensor.
Hope this helps.

Well got my ATV back and the clutch parts they replaced. The parts didn't look bad and all spec'd ok according to the manual but the clutch housing had gotton pretty hot not sure why as the fan does kick on, I will try to post a pic later. Anyway so far so good! Seems to be alright and will shift down and even spin out going up hill now so we'll see how long it lasts...... Thanks for all your replys! If anyone else has this problem its probably the clutch and even if the parts spec/look ok (I had almost 4mm on clutch "bad" pads/ 2 mm is the service limit) it could still be causing it. Hope this repair lasts!!
