Well, that depends on what you will be using it for. There is a lot of difference in the engine size and the price. I don't care much for autos myself, but after driving the Rubicon I have changed my mind (which also has ESP). But it really does depend on what you will use it for. Myself, I used the 400 for just about everything, trails, mountains, farm work, plowing snow, playing. Though it doesn't have much ground clearance (lift kit took care of that) I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am happy with it. I ride with 2 Ranchers, 1 450, and 1 Rubicon on the trails and they all handle them well. Hope this kinda helps

I own a Rubicon and will pick up a new 4-wd Rancher ES this week for my daughters so they can go with my wife and I. If money is not the deciding factor, it is like deciding betrween a Ford Ranger PU and a F-350 diesel. Sure the Ranger will get you there, but the diesel is bigger, tougher, roomier, more powerful, and a full list of differences. Both are good, machines, but if you like the Rubicon, don't buy a Rancher.

Well lets see, Ranchers will go just as far as a Rubicon, are lighter and easier to drive and are more reliable besides being about $4000 cheaper. Besides, my Rancher will *@#*ing eat anything you buy Nicholas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2002 Rancher for life baby, oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!

Had a rancher, it was top heavy, couldn't keep up with foreman's in off-camber situations.

$4000 cheaper? Check your math again.

I didn't care for auto's either. I replaced a 400 Foreman with a Rubicon and I LOVE IT!!!!!! That bike is just great. Aside from the gas milage/small tank I don't have a bad thing to say about the Rubicon.

I don't think you would either.

Both are great picks. I selected the Rancher for its lighter weight, trail riding agility, and smaller size. A 600 lb utility is a real beast to a guy who is used to 375 lb sport bikes!

The only advantage the Rancher has is that it's about 50lbs lighter, and costs less to buy.
If money is no object, then you shouldn't even have to ask the question.
