Hate to say it, but if the CRF 450 Honda comes out, the Raptor is going to be the one getting eaten, until of course Yamaha comes out with a quad utilizing their four stroke 450!

Yeah right! It would be so detuned! They'll give it just enough power to turn the wheels.

The CRF450 motor is putting out between 53-56 hp with a stock pipe. That's almost 20 ponies more than Yam's 660. Even though I own a CRF450 Lonestar quad I would buy Honda's 450{if they build it} because electric start would be nice. This motor has proven to be bulletproof in the dirt bikes and is a holeshot *****.

Actually it's putting about 53-56HP at the crank. At the rear wheels on the bike is around 47-48HP. The only MX fourstroke that gets over 50 is the KTM which is around 55HP at the rear wheel. Their 250 two stroke also hits 50 HP at the rear wheel. I'm guessing that in a quad the CRF would have about 45HP. Which is damn good for stock but Honda would probably detune it down to about 38 or so. Maybe even more. Then guys would be stuck bringing it back up to the bike's standards and beyond. It would be a damn fast quad though and light. that motor only weighs 65lbs. Compared to the 400ex which probably weighs close to 80-90lbs.

The 02' CRF450 motor put outs at 55 base horse power at the crank. The 03' motor they changed the timing and put in a bigger cam shaft. The 02' CRF450 is putting out 49 rear wheel horse power. The CRF450 with a pipe puts out 50-52. My guess is that 03' should be good for 50-51 stock possibly.

I read somewhere that the ATVA said that if a 450cc ATV came they would probably change the limit to 450cc's. So maybe Honda wouldn't have to change the cc's.

Honda wouldn't HAVE to change the cc's?!?!? They wouldn't make it to a 440 if the limit didn't change! Why is it so hard for you people to understand? Honda won't release a quad for MX, XC, TT, or Dessert racing, because if they show interest, some broke idiot will wreck and sue Honda. They don't want to be held responsible for quad racing. Infact, I think I read somewhere a quote from HOnda saying they will NEVER support quad racing.

a crf450 engine in a aluminum frame , wouldnt that be expensive??. i thought honada would use a regular frame to keep cost down cause there market is the casual trail rider and they are not into racing and getting sued. the only thing is if they do come out with the crf450 motor in a quad you can bet its going to be detuned like a mother. probly only have the same hp as a stock raptor.

Give it up, this thread is ponderous. Dirtwheels mentions that they might have heard it from their cousin's best friend's roommate's brother and you guys start jumping around like little girls and a backstreet boys concert. The only way you are going to get a crf450 quad is to build one.
