<< four strokes require more maintenance (a high tec race one anyways) the 250 and 426F's require valve adjustments frequently, and a top end replacement is a lot more costly. >>

Wrong! 2 strokes are ALOT more maintence!

the race 4 strokes require more maintenance, but the 4X4's don't. mainly because a race motor takes a lot more punishment. the race 4 strokes require frequent valve adjustments, which is a pain.

It's probably a throw up between the high tech 4 stroke and a low tech 2 stroke. The 450 motor is designed to pull like a 2 stroke, just like the 426 and 250F. I always think of it as dangerous to try to get something that is completely different, to act like something else. The 450 is a very high rev motor, just like a 2 stroke... So, I'm guessing that it will require more wrench time.

However; if you get your 250R a little drunk, you will have more maintence. A big bore 250 is just as much trouble as any new 4 stroke, if not more. So, in theory, RINCON(believe it or not) and JVC are both right.
