Get a WB slip on. I got mine for 200 when i had it and it was well worth the money. You will spend 200-250 for one i think.

Try ordering from www.atvaddiction.com talk to Lewis. He will give you a good deal. You can pretty much just pick whatever pipe you want and get the same results on the 400ex. My Yoshi pipe works great, but it's a bit more expensive than the White Bros.... I'd say for your money, I'd get the E-series, or Pro-Circuit. If you want titanium, like I did, you'll have to spend a little more cash.

Mine has a Pro Circuit T4...seems like a great pipe...good quality and nice finish too. Unfortunatly I can't say performance wise since I had never ridden the bike stock.

I can tell you that it sounds really cool...maybe be a bit loud though if you have greenies around that complain. However, I think you can adjust the pipe so it is quieter???

I ride the dunes in Oregon alot, and I don't think I've ever seen a 400ex with a Big Gun exhaust on it. I almost bought one for my bike, but due to a lack of information about them (from riders that owned them) I decided to stay away and get one that has more of a reputation. You just want good quality (for me that means sound output, corrosion resistance, decent power gains, and easy maintenance (repacking)) If you really want more bang for your buck, get a better carb for the bike, like an edelbrock quicksilver. I think that will be my next mod.

Honestly from the dyno tests I've seen you aren't going to get much out of a pipe but a bunch of noise. The average gain is .5 - 1.5 hp. At $200 min., it really is a bad investment. Chad is right, a carb would be a better investment. Even a K&N filter and rejet at $40 will give you more HP than a pipe. Now if you where going to go to a big bore or high compression piston or cam, then the exhaust is a must. But if you are going to keep it stock, don't even bother.

You will gain plenty of hp from a complete system. You only gain a little hp if you go with a slip-on. I run a WB Pro-meg system. After I installed it my bike was completely different. It had a lot more hp. I rode a friends with an edelbrock carb and a slip-on. I did notice a lot better throttle response, but it had less grunt. That showed me how much the stock headpipe restricts the engine. The pro-meg headpipe is at least a 1/4" bigger in diameter. This is just what I have learned from my own experiences. I say save up and get a complete exhaust system.

Well i wouldn't suggest a pipe for a 400. Its just gona make it annoying and really won't help that much. If you do decide its necessary get a white bros. They have some good stuff. Check it out on rockymountainatv.com. They have 2 different white bros pipes. One says 2-4 hp and the other 4-7. Good luck.
