i was doing some really slow trail riding with some of my friends when i noticed my clutch started slipping. the 400ex keep dying and would not go into neutral. i could even start to smell the clutch burning. i shut off my bike and let it cool. i started it back up after it cooled for a little bit and the clutch seemed to work fine. i don't know if i need to get new springs and plates or not. with how slow we were going i can see how it got hot because i was using the clutch a lot. do i need to replace this or just let it go? i run valvoline synapower in it so that may have something to do with it too. thanks for the help

i don't know if i need to get a whole new clutch basket or what. the clutch seems to be working fine now but i would just like to put something a little stronger in to prevent this from happening again. any thoughts?

Synthetic oils burn up clutches. I've seen posts on here about the same problem dozens of times. Run the recommended oils....enough said.

go out and run in 4th or 5th at over 1/2 throtle and try to open it up. If the engine rev's up and the quad takes a sec to speed up you have glazed or burnt up the plates. You might be just lucky and put a light coating on the steel plates. You can clean them up with a scotch bright pad. Watch what kind of oil that you are using, you will heear all kinds of stories about which works best. If you are going to be riding slow and using the clutch alot you might want to invest in some of the ATV oil's.
Best of luck.

i took the bike out in 4th and 5th and the rpm's don't seem to rev up or anything unusual like that but it seems to be different. the bike does not seem to pull as good, like it bogs or something. before this my friend and i were even but now he pulls on me in 4th and 5th. any suggestions?
