if you ride hard, and jump, play race, and don't like a lot of maintenance, then get the honda. it is a better overall quad, which is more versitle

EXs are more reliable, lighter, better handling, more power, better jumper. Thats my opinion. I have ridden on a lot of Polaris's and they feel too big and heavy. They are much easier to ride though. You can get used EXs for around 3-5 grand

I had a 98 Scramber for 679 days & spent exactly $6974.50 on repairs (not including oil). This works out to $10.27/day!!
Then I had a 2000 450es for longer and spent less than $450 on repairs

I think this states Honda!

I would have to say the ex.Polaris is great for staright line racing and even good at fast trails. But the ex is much lighter and funer to ride if you ask me.If the polaris was as light as the ex i would go with it.But ya know 500 and some odd pounds just isnt ment to fly

Scramblers are infamous for breakdowns, Honda is famous for durability. Scrambler lacks the low range tranny that other Polaris models have. Polaris' brand new Predator is supposed to be a quantum leap past the Scrambler, so you might ask a dealer about when you could get a leg over a Predator, or go to the Polaris thread here. The 400ex is old, old news, and will be replaced in '03 with (probably) an aluminum framed 450. Which should make the 400exs a good deal on clearance sale. Honda dealers are currently discounting 400s because they are priced the same as the much better Suz/Kaw Z400 (same machine, different colors), so you might find a new 400ex for under $4800 if you were lucky. That's a grand off retail. I'm guessing the prices on used exs will come down as well, with the new ones getting so cheap. Have fun.
