holes in air box or remove lid?
#2
I run my 400ex with a k/n filter with prefilter without the airbox lid runs very good no problems. I don't know if you need to but i also take a furance filter cut it to replace the box lid, to catch some of the larger stuff that may get in. Take the lid off install the filter and give it a try you may need to rejet.

I drilled a bunch (about 20) 1" holes, and put in those airbox filters from White Bros. or Uni (same thing). They have a sponge in them (I DO NOT oil the sponges because they will clog up), so it doesn't get as dirty as with the lid completely off. If I ran in the desert with my lid off, my airbox would become a nice little sandbox in no time at all.
