Hey guys, i've heard something like that the cheapest mod to do would be to change the sprocket. What is the stock sprocket on the 400ex? Which would be the one to get and exactly what would the sprocket do performance wise?

stock sprocket is 15 tooth i would go with 14 tooth. i put one on mine and it reves a lot quicker. better acceleration but lower top end(not much) I paid 15.99 for mine and took 10 min. to install. worth the money!

I went to a 14 for a short time. It was great for "play riding", but was just to much for out on the trail. It was just to difficult to keep the front end on the ground!! I would power out of turns, and the front would come up and I would have no stearing. As a compromise, I went one tooth larger in the rear, which I really like.

Doesnt really make sense....

You went with the 14 tooth in the front, which was little too much torque for your type of riding. You compensated with one tooth larger in the rear? This just increased the affect even more! did you mean you downsized the rear one tooth?

yzguy is right to get lower gearing with the back sproket you put a larger one on it. it you wont taller gearing with the rear sproked you would put a smaller sproket on. and for the front sproket you put a bigger sproket on for talled gearing and a smaller for lower gearing it is just the oposite of the front sproket.
