I know how you feel abought the budget plan, but the conversion kit that does this with everything to make it right will cost more than you think. Not tryin to be an know it all or smart a$$ I've been in your shoes years ago on a very similar situation. good luck in whatever you choose to do!!!!! POWROLL makes some conversion kits for the 250X-300EX, but not sure abought the R later dude

After some serious thought I am saying **** it I am gonna drop a 500 in there, rubber mount that bad boy, anti vibe stem, guesset my frame, silicone the bars and go. If I don't like it I will put that motor back in the bike and sell it.

Jeeze Killer! You dont' need a big bore cylinder to go fast. Drop your stock cylinder off at any reputable engine shop, and get it ported, some flow work, and a carb. You'll be all set. Throw a set of reeds in there and you'll have a screamer.

If you are really going with the 500, hope you can learn how to weld.

Well LSB I work ata welding shop so I think I am set on me welding her up, doing my own guesseting, and whatever else i need to do. And If I was o od th stock motor I wouldn't feel comfortble doing just the top end, i would have to go through the bottom too, just to be safe, and by then my funds would be tapped out.

My R is an 88, I intend to guesset it quite a bit and go over some of the cheesey stock welds, just to be safe. After that I will give the frame a coat of candyapple red paint, slip that badass 500 in there and go.

Now all I have to do is find someone to buy my motor so I have enough to buy that CR500, get me an anti vibe stem, some rubbers...lol....and idk where I am gonna find a pipe to fit this...any ideas ??

But who knows, i might change my mind again and want to go with the more reliable, forward kick 6 speed 350X.....

CR500's = Not easy to start. But then again in a quad frame you can put all your bodyweight behind it whereas on the bike if you do that it'll tip over.

I agree with Lonestar.U say U only have a ESR pipe on now.Listen to us.Port it,put a good reed cage a different carb and freshen the top end up.She will rip.Mine is an 86.I could run next to my dad's old zilla till 4th gear. Why cut up an R?Especially an 88.

Hey E-mail about your motor.I am looking for one and have cash!

This is just something I have always wanted to try, if I end up not liking it I will just go back to another 250R motor. Thanks for your opinions but I am going with the 500.

Sounds cool I always wanted to put a crf in my 400ex ever since I got it. Good luck with the swap and try to post some pics id really like to see it when its finished. It will surely rip your arms outta their sockets with the 500 engine. I know some of the racers use cr250 engines in their quads and say they really only vibrate badly at idle once the rpms get up some it smoothes out a lot of the vibrations.
