Can anyone help ? My 2001 Rancher 350ES 4x4 no longer has reverse. It just stopped working. I push the reverse button in, downshift, and get nothing, no indicator light, no noise, nothing. All gears shift fine forward, upshift, downshift, no problem, only reverse. The cable seems ok, its not loose or has too much play. I asked the dealer where I bought it from, all they said was "It's hard to say, bring it in and we'll take a look at it.", yea, for $65 bucks an hour.
Anyway, if anyone knows of this problem, help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same thing happen to mine. Check the back of the engine kinda low and you will see a black wire that fits over a connection that is very similar to a spark plug cap, but smaller. It either came off or is loose. I had to crimp the cap a little to make it stay on, but have had no further problems. Let me know if it worked or if you have any further questions.

My friend has this problem too. Any more detailed instructions on where to find it? I think we are going to look for it tonight.

Had the same problem, intermittent at first then reverse completely dead. Tried dielectric grease on connection - still dead. Replaced 'reverse shift switch' $25Cdn and works perfect now. Still a good idea to use dielectric grease on all connections. Speedometer quit after running in deep snow - fix was dielectric grease on connection to angle sensor (local dealer couldn't fix the problem.

SORRY ABOUT THE POOR DESCRIPTION OF WHERE TO FIND THE REVERSE CONNECTION. IT'S LOCATED AT THE BACK OF THE ENGINE NEAR THE BOTTOM. IF YOU REACH BACK TOWARD THE ENGINE FROM THE REAR AXLE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE AND FIND IT. THE SENSOR AND CONNECTION POINT OUT THE BACK OF THE ENGINE TOWARD THE REAR. GOOD LUCK

I have pictures of the rear of the rancher. Take a look and point out where the wire and sensor is. If you can take the photo and circle it with a program and e-mail it to me. bbertram@mts.net or bbertram@hydro.mb.ca

Look in my signature for the link, its called Rancher Wire Pics in my album.

OK, BETTER INFORMATION ON LOCATING THE REVERSE CONNECTION. IT IS JUST TO THE RIGHT OF WHERE THE DRIVESHAFT ENTERS THE REAR OF THE ENGINE AND JUST ABOVE THE FRAME CROSSMEMBER. LOOKS LIKE A SMALL SPARK PLUG CAP

We found it and it looks secure and its firmly in place. We think its the buttons on the handle bars now. If you play with the gears when it fails it will start working again. Strange.

I checked where you said, played with the connection, but still get nothing. I guess my next thing will be to try replacing the sensor. If that doesn't work, I dont know what else.

My friend is ordering a new thumb switch, I hope this solves the problem.
