Hey everybody, I have a 2002 Foreman 450 S, and have noticed that my electric fan has not kicked on once. Now my temp light has not come on, and it really didnt worry me until the other day I rode with someone with the same quad and his kicked on quite often. I called the dealer and asked and they told me to just check the fuse which I did and it was fine. Maybe I'm being paranoid but its only a month old and I really dont want to mess it up. Anyone else ran into this prob...or have any suggestions. Thanks in advance

I have a 2002 450S. The fan doesn't kick in unless you are moving really slow for a while which causes the engine to build up heat. In the right conditions I can ride for hours and it never kicks in. My friends sp700 overheats before my fan kicks in(honestly). If it is hot and I am crawling through the woods it takes at least 30 min before it gets hot enough for the fan to kick in. By the way the pre 2002 are full time 4wd so they should heat up just a little faster due to the higher constant load on the engine.

Does anyone notice a clicking or ratcheting sound if they brake or downshift coming down a hill on the 450?

I have the same quad and i noticed that after about an hour of hard trail riding the fan seems to kick in and out pretty consistenly. I asked around and was told that how you ride the quad has some to do with how much heat builds up in the motor/gearbox. Meaning how often you shift, hills, ect. If you look at your quad by the shift lever (or where it would be if it is es) thats where the heat sensor is for your fan so if you tranny is hot from hard shifting or bogging your motor it will cause the fan to run more. Hope i helped a little.
