Mods on Quads, necessary?

Pauleo21,
If your just pleasure riding, Don't surcome to the pressure to mod. It will not add any value to the quad when you go to sell it. Might even decrease the value if you keep the mod items in place, so at least keep stock items so you can put them back on.
The question is can you really use the machine to its full potential now. If you are going to that full extreme and can hang on and then you need even more I guess I would mod it.
I think all the ads in the ATV magazines sway people too. There is a pipe add on the back of an ATV Action and if you purchase this pipe it is the worlds first high performance 'woods' muffler equipped with a smaller bark-yet still delivers a big bite. What, they have been making pipes for quads forever. They just want you to think your life will be lined with rainbows if you purchase this pipe.
For most people stock is better and they just think this pipe will be the cure all in which in reality you need to get your skill as a rider improved.
Pauleo21 don't be pressured to mod. JUST SAY NO TO MOD.

I hear what you're saying. Yeah, I think I'll keep her stock. It's just that I wanted a different "growl" when I pushed the throttle. The stock sound vs. aftermarket pipe is a world of difference.... hmmm, only if the 4 stokes could sound like the 2 strokes w/o all the hassles that come w/ the 2 strokes!!! I'd love to have powerband on the 4 strokes too!

phwang20,
If you want a different sound you could do what I have done.
On the Raptor you can take the end cap out and it does sound better but most of the time I just keep it in.
On my old 300EX I took the end cap out. I had to take a drimmel and file off the little spot welds to remove it. It had a nice mellow sound to it after the removal.

Its a spark arrestor/noise reducer/baffle. I see you have a 300EX.
I would try it on that and see how you like the sound.
Just take your time and cut through those spot welds that hold the spark arrestor in place. It might be suck in there but if you work at it, It will come out. Cheap way to get more noise if you want it.
