When I first got my 400EX I thought it was the Cat's meow. Than I started riding with a LT250 and got tired of being pulled away from. Not being able to get up some of Dumont's Dunes didn't help either. So it was time for more power. If I rode tight trails, I would have saved the money, and got better shocks.

Now I own a Cannondale and it beats my Buds DS650 up Comp at Glamis and almost keeps up with another buds Banshee.

Mods are not always just to improve performance! Some people put on equipment to personalize their ride, or just to make it different and stand out from the others. There is nothing seriously wrong with any of the stock quads. If this is your first one, great! Ride it as is for a while and as you use it, different things will come to light and you might feel the need to change them. When and if that happens do them gradually as you can afford it. It can get pretty expensive to put on mods just because everyone else does, so take your time and put on just the things you feel you need and enjoy it!

I wanted to build a quad that 250R riders and 400EX riders wouldn't think of as being competition. Every time I go to a motocross race they all stand back and check my quad over. They usually laugh me off, that is untill the gate drops . I can do everything and go anywhere on my X that you could do on a 400EX or a 250R. I weigh less, I have reverse, and most importantly it's a kick start 4 stroke. I'm not big on 2 strokes I'm more of a 4 stroke guy. I hate electric start. The X was perfect for me.

The only reason I have any mods is because of stock parts bending or breaking (MX is a rough sport). I've only bought new wheels, tires, handle bars, and nerfs. Right now, it's just down to a bare frame/motor (which is why my signature says, "02 Dale w/ less than it had stock&quot, because I'm getting ready to buy a axle, a-arms, and either buy new front shocks or get them all rebuilt. The thing that sucks is, the only way I can afford those aftermarket parts is by not racing or going to the track period until next season . Atleast you get to ride man, so don't worry to much about what other people have. You'll prolly end up buying something sooner or later, and after you ride a bit, you'll find out what you want/need.

The 400EX is a good machine completely stock.

The advertisers brain wash you into thinking you need all of them.

Modifications!!!!

Some you do, some you don't.

I honestly feel that every ATV should come with some type of nerf bars and a kill teather. Wether you choose to use the teather is up to you but at least it's there.

technically, every quad comes with everything you absolutely need save for maybe a helmet or other safety gear.

aftermarket parts are brought on by a few reasons:
safety
convenience
and most important, performace, efficiency, and more fun
