400ex mods
#1
I just bought a 99 400ex. Its pretty stock besides a slip on pipe and a filter. I was thinking about getting a complete pipe first, curtis sparks probably. Then, i will go into the motor. JE high compression piston, a cam, and some port work. I might get it bored to a 416 or 426. I need some more power for MX. Im new to four strokes. Will what i have listed wake this motor up some? Thanks, Ant.

la400ex- If you are serious about MX and thats what type of riding you are going to be doing the most I would suggest this and in this order:
1. Aftermarket A-arms (I would get long travel)
2. Aftermarket shocks (Axis, Elka, or PEP)
3. Nerf bars
4. Beadlocks for the rear
5. Sparks pipe
6. Now I would do the motor work. If I were you I would try to stick to the same person/engine
builder on all the motor work.
Also, what tracks do you ride at? There is an all quads race at Fernwood MX this Saturday in McComb, MS. You ought to come if you can. Well I hope this helps and good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks man. I wish i could make it to that race. I have plans with my family on saturday though. Thats maybe an hours drive from here. Let me know when some more come up. A guy that owns a track by my house, holeshot mx, (used to be close encounters mx) is planning on building a mx track just for fourwheelers somewhere around here. Im only 17 so money is pretty low. The mods will come really slow. What brand of a-arms do you suggest? Also, i have nerf bars, i forgot to list that in my sig. Here is my bike, photos.yahoo.com/anthony1999x Tell me if it doesnt work. Thanks for the advice. Ant.

la400ex- I would suggest Roll Design Lobo II a-arms. They are around $2500, but that includes the a-arms and shocks. After that I would say the Houser long travel a-arms. They are about $800. Thats a good looking quad you got. It looks really clean also. Another thing I forgot in my list was to add gussets to the frame. When I had my 400ex I broke the frame at the shock mounts. I will let you know about future races. Later.
