i HAVE ONE OF THOSE nORTHERNTOOLS TIMBERJACKS AND IT BROkE THE WELD 3RD TIME USING IT where the stand part is. darn caps lock.

If you are going to be chain sawing it helps not to drag it through mud or dirt as puts a hurt on your chain so I prefer my 17 cu. ft. trailer.

I recently used an old car hood (I think it was off a chevy nova) we welded a small chunk of chain to the front and a short chunk on the under side of the hood with 2 hooks.

We flipped the hood over so the flat side was down, used a PV to roll the log onto the hood and chained it down. Then hooked it to the hitch on the ATV and drove off through the brush and mud to the bandsaw mill.

I have a log wizard debarker attachment for my chainsaw and use it to clean the mud, if any, from where the bandsaw mill blade went through the log and would cut it into lumber.

Cheap trailer and works even better in the winter with a snow machine and there is not mud then but it is pretty cold.

Car hoods are fun to ride too. Not as much fun for my brother when his head has in the snowbank but I had fun. Good thing we were wearing helmets.

For light land clearing weve used a old skid plate that has a angle to it, most anything that keeps the front edge of the log from digging into the trail as you drag the log.

We usally put two to four logs tethered (depending on size) next to each other and put the curved skid plat under the front of the logs to keep them from digging in as you drag them to the log deck.

Of course oa logging arch would work better if you have a lot to do.

I don't have any kind of log skidder or arch and used a chain to drag several trees at once behind my truck, down the road and back to my campsite. I don't remember how many miles it was but I actually wore down my log chain. It was sand vs steel and the steel lost. I never did that again.

Been their, that's one of the reasons why we used the chevy skid plate so the chain and front end of the logs woudnt dig in and tear up.

I distroyed a nice chain, before getting creative.
