New guy from Michigan - 94 Sportsman 400
Hey guys. I already managed to post and get some good info before I realized there was an intro section here!
I purchased my latest ATV about a month ago. This is my first since I was a teen. I grew up riding Yamaha Warriors and Honda dirt bikes. Decided that I needed a quad to plow snow with this winter instead of spending a bunch on A) A service to do it for me or B) A bad *** snow blower. I like the four wheeler idea better. So far I have a little less than $1600 into it. Paid $1200 for the machine, $275 for a used Cycle Country plow setup with tubes and a mounting plate, and $50 for a Tractor Supply 3000# winch, and $60 for the mounting plate for the front end.
I'm excited to get it all hooked up and ready for the white stuff. I also plan on riding the quad out at my moms place. She's on about 10 acres so I can load it up and head out there for an afternoon of riding.
Here's a photo:
Plans so far are as follows:
The mileage is unknown (Is there an hour meter on these engines somewhere?), but I plan on getting lots of life out it and making it my own. Hopefully it lasts a few years for me, especially with the help of this forum and the 500 page service manual
Thanks for looking guys! See ya around!

Plans so far are as follows:
- Rebuild carb with stock kit
- Fix Non-op Speedo/Odo
- Replace trans fluid and 4wd fluid
- Repair nipple on coolant tank. Cracked on the bottom, slow leak. JB weld to the rescue.
- Tightening up the exhaust and seal up any leaks through the system
- Have the racks (and maybe bumpers if removable?) powder coated (maybe wrinkle?) black
- I want to upgrade my lights and possibly add some strobe LED lights on the front and rear, white and amber for when I'm out plowing. I live on a main road (45mph) so I want to be seen when I'm pushing snow!!!
- And then finally, PLOW SOME FRIGGIN SNOW WITH IT!

The mileage is low because it still has the stock GoodYear P-Tracker tires on it that still look in good shape.
P-Tackers where not known for their long mileage life.
Looks in great shape.
Your speedo problem is probably just the Hall Effect sensor on the right front rotor. Those things do not last long do to their location.
Its a quick easy part to change for $60.

Odo shows 350 miles or so, but who knows how long it's been inoperable...
Thanks for the comment!
