I'm new to the connection, first timmer.Does anyone know if you can use the tie down points in a pickup with a chain running across, then using the winch on the ATV to pull it up the ramps to load safely? Thanks

You probably could, but why not just secure your ramps to the truck (via the hitch) and drive aboard? It would also depend on the type/weight of ATV you have. Some of the larger ones (like my Outty Max for instance) might put a strain on your tie-points.

Welcome to the forums.

What size atv? A little sport quad or kids atv would be a lot different than a 1000cc 4x4.

Are you talking about the stake pockets, or does your truck have bolted in tie down points. (mine does) The stake pockets would be questionable. Can be done, but the weight being pulled on them can cause the metal to bend. I've done it with ratchet straps just tying my atv down.

Longer ramps help to overcome the kind of slant that will cause you to roll over backwards. Also, get up off the seat if you aren't already. Stand with your body over the handlebars to move the weight forward. If your quad has it use low gear for a nice steady climb.

The tie down cleats in the bed of the pickup should be plenty strong.

Buy or even make you a small trailer. Safer and quicker than loading in your bed. I have 6' tri-fold steel ramps from back in the 80's and even without lifts or bigger tires trucks keep getting taller. That's why I got a trailer. I'd hate to see the angle my ramps would be at on a new 3/4 ton 4x4.
