Default 2000 Honda Recon 250, need help with rear tires and wheels

I have been trying to find replacement tires and wheels for my sons Recon but information has been very confusing. It doesn't have a stock rear tire or rim. Size of tire is 22 x 12.5 - 9; rim does not have any info. Where can I find tire & rim together? Thanks in advance.

If buying new tires and rins, you can mostly disregard the current setup. Keep in mind any size changes to the front tires though, as going a lot bigger or smaller than stock only front or rear can effect handling. Also, rear tire size changes overall gearing, something to keep in mind with the smaller engine machines. Is there anything you are looking for in particular with a new setup?

My son was pretty happy with the tires he has on the back currently. The reason we want to replace is the rims have started wearing around the bolt holes and its gotten pretty bad. The tread is about at 20% so we thought we replace both tire and rim. The confusing part is we're not 100% sure if the tire we order will fit the rim we buy. The explanations for tire and rim sizing are not very intuitive.

So my suggestion is to order them as a set if you are really worried. In general if ordering from a website they will ask front or rear plus make model and year machine. Example, you are replacing a 22x11x9 tire with same size. Then you will need a new 9" rim, and a 22x11x9 tire. A lot of places will have the tires mounted when ordering a set.

Thanks for the tip Scooter86; do you have a website you recommend for tires?

I'll pm you a few sites I have used. One of the few things the industry rags are good for as well. Don't forget the site sponsors.
