220 Bayou starter spins
My old 220 Bayou was idling and just quit. A restart attempt left the starter spinning but it's not turning the engine over. The pull start does the same thing. It pulls real easy but the engine isn't turning over. I know whatever is wrong ain't good. Where do I start? Thanks.

No, right place, it's just there isn't a lot to say. It looks like you have a problem inside the engine. I have only worked on one 220 but think the electric start was completely separate from the pull start. If so, you either have a two faulty starter mechanisms, or the crankshaft nut/bolt has come loose and this has let the flywheel come loose. Or the con rod has broken and you are just spinning the crankshaft. Whatever, the first thing is to take off the pull start cover and take a look.

Alternator cover to see if the starters were moving the crankshaft. This job can be difficult as some engines have gearbox components inside the cover, I don't think yours has but, if it does, you can get a shower of springs, levers and washers, and no obvious place where they came from. If the crank is going round but the piston is not moving, it is engine out and a complete strip down.
