650 prairie rear axle Dust Boots
#1
Hello all fellow 650 owners! I am a newby as of last Monday. I just sold my 89 Suzuki Lt 500r quadracer thought I would miss the power but the new Kaw is twice the machine! Question I am pretty detail oriented and have noticed that my machine did not have the rubber boots as shown in the brochure. The axle and diff is machined for this part. I asked my dealer about this thinking they had been forgotten to be put on. He looked at the other machines he had and they to were not there! He then checked with Kawasaki so he said and they told him none of the machines come with them or are they available! I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this because IMO they should be there to help keep water and mud out of the rear axle bearings! I am going to contact Kawasaki myself and see what they have to say. Anyone else have a opinion on this?

I think I read earlier on this forum that the reason Kawasaki discontinued the dust boots is because they actually trapped in dirt/debris and ended up doing more harm than good. If you look at the online microfiche at www.buykawasaki.com, it shows the dust guards but says discontinued.
