Our stadagy is buy a kids brand name for $1200 and when the kid grows out of it sell it to the next person with a small kid for $1000 two years later, then rinse and repeat.
At a $100 per year that not bad for trouble free riding.

My friend bought a used 2007 Yamaha TT-R90E in 2010 for his son.http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/en...icleCode=38335 for $ 1,100 two years later without doing a thing to it. He was the 3rd owner and the person he sold it to for his kid will likley not be the last.

On the other hand if he did buy a NEW Asian bike instead his kid could of learnt how to wrench as well as ride.

If the child hits a wall and wrecks the plastic, they knock a big chunk out of the bike's value as well, Chinese plastics are cheap to replace, big name makers are stupidly expensive on kids bike plastics.

We sold a new Suzuki LTZ50 a couple of years ago, very expensive and terminally slow, if I was a child, I'd far rather have a Buyang which costs less than 1/3 of the price, or a ten year old LT50 for that matter.
