Is this access hole right over the flywheel? Quads often have a view port access hole in the cover over the flywheel in order to shine a timing light onto the timing marks on the flywheel. New quad owners sometimes pour oil into this hole by mistake.

136 ohms is fine. The better test is to see if you get 0.2 to 0.4 volts AC on these wires with the starter motor cranking.

But you measured infinite ohms on these very same wires when probing from the CDI connector. So it looks like there is an open wire between the CDI connector and the stator.

yes thats right so what ill do is put it all back together and try and get that 0.4v whilst cranking it over and also try and get the resistance from the CDI on those 2 wires. ill let u know how that goes!

When i removed the magneto there was a few cogs in there and also a bit of oil any idea what type of oil would be in there? the cogs join the starter motor to the flywheel im guessing!

so i got .245vac from the wires with it cranking and also got 140 ohms from the cdi so im guessing the magneto is all good! so where do we go from here? im a little concerned that the solid black wire that should be the ac ignition power goes to nothing? should i try and put 12vdc through this see if this works?

Nick, I'm glad you got it running...

I apologize for the last several days of silence. I've been flat on my back with the flu. It looks like you were able to solve it yourself .
