quad been.sitting outside for months. checked spark plug looks good . motor turns and even starts , stays on for about 7 seconds, then dies. if If I give it gas while on, it will bog down and die. any prior experiences , ideas, sugestions are greatly appreciated.

Water or dirt in carburettor. Clean it out by removing the float bowl and blowing bowl and jets out with compressed air. If it is water, there will probably be more in the fuel tank.

I'd do a compression test.
Hopefully it's above 90.

Clean the carb out again. Water can fir up the jets, did you make sure they were clean? Also water is almost impossible to get out of the tank completely, it often takes several carb cleans to get rid of the remaining droplets.

so I took off air filter to give it another cleaning and before reinstalling I decided to cover the air filter hole with hand and tried starting and it did start and stayed on. then it starts to bog down then I remove my hand and runs better, then bigs down, then cover hole again, and runs better and can do that for a while...if I just reinstall the filter it will.do.the same of starting for a second or two and die. what could.this mean? think im getting close to the issue..

I put a piece of cloth to.cover up where the air filter goes and quad is on and stays on. but If I give it gas it kind of wants to bog down. its ideled kind of high.and.trying to adjust the idle cable wont make a difference.

Either you still have a partly blocked jet, or an air leak into the manifold. Did you check that any O-rings were in place when you put the carb back on?
