Default 2012 Odes Dominator 800

Anyone own or know someone who has owned an Odes Dominator 800. Its a utility side by side that looks very similar to a Polaris Ranger 800. Actually probably looks more like a Rhino but has a twin cylinder 800 like the Ranger. There is one for sale locally that I was considering looking at. The price is reasonable, about $4000 for a 2012 model. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...e=1&permPage=1
I've read mixed reviews about the machine. For the price, I'm considering taking a chance though. Might even be able to get it for even less since there doesn't seem to be much local interest in it.

Better read this Odes dominator - Polaris RZR Forum - RZR Forums.net its another china clone. Just because they copy off something its still not made of the same componets and material.

I don't care if something is $4000 or $5000 less if its going to not last and be problems.

I don't own one, never seen one in the wild either. There is a dealer in Buffalo that has been selling them for the past 3 or 4 years that advertises on c l quite a bit, so I researched them before making my recent purchase. What I found was the same story as every other Chinese made atv. You will be doing a lot of work vs a main brand. The motors are pretty powerful though, spec sheet looks good. Price of new ones is to high, for a little more you can buy something that will have a known parts support and dealer network.

For the money, I think I would rather find an older Rhino, it may not have the same power, but the parts and support network is there for you.

Yeah, I guess I was kinda looking for some of you to kinda talk me out of it lol. I actually saw an older Arctic Cat Prowler 650 for about $5500 that looks like it would probably be a better deal. Saw a few Rhinos for around $5000 as well. For about $6000, I can get a 50" Rzr 800 which would be a more versatile machine, would fit on most atv trails around here. I like the smaller size and lighter weight of the 50" Rzr. I think they make a machine similar to the Rzr but I haven't seen one used yet and the new ones are not much less expensive than a new Rzr or Wildcat Trail. I probably will just leave the Odes alone. Parts do seem readily available on their website but yes, it probably won't prove to be a reliable machine. For about $1000-$1500 more I can buy something with a better reputation for quality. I believe 2012 was the first year they built the Dominator 800 in fact. The company hasn't been making them for very long. So long term reliability is completely unknown. I probably will just save my money and keep riding the Grizzly. That's not too bad of a backup plan. I'd hate to spend even $3500 on this Odes machine only to have it constantly need something to keep it going. For me the availability of the machine would frustrate me more than having to spend money on it. When I want to ride, I want the machine to be ready to go.
