When the 3 wheelers were very popular back in 85' - 86' who made the fastest 3 wheeler? Honda's ATC 250R or Kawi's Tecate 3 or Yamaha's 250 (forget what they called it) lets here from all of you who have owned or still own these awesome machines. I had heard that the yamaha had the fastest of the 2 stroke 3 wheelers. But I am a very loyal Honda owner ( 250R 4 trax ) and I want to here from all of you

The Yamaha 250cc trike was called the Tri-Z. It's really cool looking with black and yellow plastic. As for THE fastest, seems like they were quite similar if my memory serves me. The Tecate-3 might have had more thrust but I think that the MAGAZINES prefered the Honda. I am currently looking for an '86 ATC 250R, but would like a Tri-Z also. As for the Tecate, I'll pass.

My friend, who owns a '86 250r 3-wheeler would proclaim it was the fastest of all ATC's. I know it's certainly not the fastest against a 4-wheeler. My Tecate will pull away hard in the first 4 gears then he'll finally catch up. I plan on doing some re-gearing and giving him another run.

We've clocked his 3 wheeler around 70-75mph. To my knowledge it's completely stock with exception to the pipe.

It has been generally regarded the Tecate was slightly faster than the other two machines...

The Tri-Z also came in Red and Black, VERY cool looking.

Im also looking for an 86 ATC 250R, They are, in my opinion, the meanest looking ATV's ever...

I had an 84 ATC 250R. With no mods and no 1st gear [previous owner bent the shift forks] it would beat my cousins CR 125 and my brothers YZ 125 off of the line and stay there for a while. We got the car out and the ATC would go exactly 72mph. The YZ would go 75.

I think this is one of those very subjective topice. My brother has an 85 atc 250r which is bone stock. It has been colcked by a registered radar gun at 77mph, and yep it is really cool looking!

My friend has a couple of ATC250R's. They are a blast to ride. On one of 'em he has a 350 big bore kit,FMF pipe, and a huge carb(I can't remember the size) . It goes about as fast as mildly modded Banshee's up Sand Mountain, Utah. The other trike is all stock.

When you talk about drag racing the Tecate's (3&4) are the clear winners. Me and my buds in high school raced all the time and they had Tri-Z's and 250R's, I was the lone Tecate and whould win. When mine was stock and theirs piped I would still beat then by a trike lenght or two. Basically whatever mods they did and if I did the same I would beat them. By the way I live near the Milan Dragway and they still have sand drags.
I am sorry I sold my Tecate 3 (I needed money to modify my Mustang then) but I am looking for a good one now and I have a couple of propects. Soon I sould have a T-3 in my stable again.

my dad had ATC 250r's and they where quick that is all I remember I was about 3 when he ahd them. my dads freind ahd a tr-z when I was about 10 and all I remember was that it was FAST. I raced a tecate 4 that had a FMF pipe with my trx250r (when i had a stock pipe) I know that if the tecate had a top end as fresh as mine he would have beat me but my top end only had about 10 hours on it and it was still tight(still is)and he had bald rears and I had some holeshot mx's and we where racing in sand and I would continuly beat him I would have liked to race him on pavement though.

86 trx250r wiseco .020 piston, porting work,FMF gold series fatty pipe, power core 2 silencer, boyeson reeds,DG alloy series nerfs,PEP easy pull clutch perch and lever, motion pro twist throttle, motion pro clutch cable, motion pro kill switch,20/11/9 6 ply razr's on ITP .190 wheels,18/11/8 holeshot mx's on mithcell .190 wheels,21/7/10 holeshots on ITP .190 wheels, durablue posi loc axle nut, durablue eliminator adjustable axle,LSR bearing carrier,152 main jet.Future mods include works shocks with res's all the way around(not sure what kind getting them used for a good price)new +2 a-arms new +1 swingarm. pics available
