Default 06 Hawkeye lacks power, dies at idle

I have an 06 Hawkeye with 89 hrs (didn't look at mileage, but very low, used in small yard). It doesn't want to rev up as it should and died yesterday at idle...had trouble re-starting it. Also, after killing it yesterday, it had a strong suction on the pull rope.

Replaced battery after winter and put a small amount (couple of oz) of Seafoam in gas tank. Where to start looking? Thanks.

Did it sit all winter without any fuel stabilizer?(I personally believe in Marine Stabil brand now as I've had carb problems with water in fuel(Seafoam and regular Stabil won't remove it) If adjusting slack at throttle doesn't help, could be that carb needs to be cleaned(idle jet, main jet, possible needle valve?) Plus I would check the simple things first such as the plug. If sooty looking,I would replace. Hopefully its just what TLC mentioned. There were a few bulletins on the 06,that I will check into. Keep us posted,Hopefully its something simple. OPT

The one my wife rides was doing the exact same thing, it was running too lean and the engine was over heating to the point of boiling the gas in the carb. Came that way from popo, local shop worked on it forever and said it was fine, but it was not. Rejetted the carb with a dynojet kit runs jus a tad rich now but never dies and has plenty of power.

If you had a rush of air when you pulled the rope start from the "seat" thats a good sign that your seal is good, not a problem. drain carb bowl also

Thanks for the replies. I have been out of town and busy with work and unable to get back to it until now. I tried starting it and now it will not start at all, even with starting fluid. I tried adjusting the throttle cable, no go either. Then...gas started pouring out of the bottom of the carb from a small hole that looks like a drain hole. I could not get it to stop...until all the gas had drained out of the tank. By the way, OPT was right about leaving gas in it all winter and beyond without stabil...probably 6 months or so.

Does this mean that the carb must be torn down and rebuilt? If so, should I put a jet kit in it as some have with these Hawkeyes? Thanks...

Needle valve probably sticking, allowing carb to over flow and drained tank. YES carb needs to be cleaned(main jet and pilot jet, just clean and reuse)) and probably replace the needle valve assembly Use Marine stabil if it is going to set up for any length of time, red stabil does NOT work as well on ethanol gas OPT
