Default 2010 sp 500 engine check

Im just about to start rebuilding my ATV after a strip down and frame swap. Whilst the engine is out I'd like to put it on the bench and at least take the top off for a quick check.

Other than valve clearances, anything else I should be looking at? I've got a top end gasket set on standby.

On that new of a model if you've taken care of it,engines are basically bullet proof.Just give it a general look over.Check/adjust the valves, check that the timing chain is tight. One thing you can do if you have the time is to pull the stator ,loosen the lower cam sprocket slotted nut,put a bead of thread locker on the threads and tighten the slotted nut back up.You don't have to have the special socket. A simple punch will be okay to loosen it up. It's reverse threads(left to tighten) Once you do that you won't have to worry about the nut ever backing off as some have done.
