Default Speedometer not working

Ok I'm back again , 04.5 sportsman 700 efi , the speedometer quit working , the odometer quit rolling and awd won't engage . Could the cluster be bad or maybe the speed sensor ! Before it stopped working , the needle would bounce up n down when I give it gas in park !

Sounds like the common speed sensor problem on no mileage accumulation or showing speed. May not be the case for the awd though, but I'd replace the sensor and see how it does. If awd doesn't work you can jump the brown/white speedo harness wire(awd ground) to the brown wire in the harness or to a another good ground and see if awd is restored. Makes no sense why they routed the awd ground path through the speedo.Guess they wanted to keep all functions in one compact little area so if it screws up people would by a new speedo. Hopefully this will bypass it. Some have gone the extreme route and rebuilt theirs if the speedo head faulted.I'm not that patient..http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...ml#post3232409

Here's one place that says can do it all,but can't track down exact cost.Cheaper in the long run just to get a new one if costs are any where near what the costs are for autos.Speedometer Repair

Ok so my awd should work by doing the ground wire trick because it would work if I held the override button down !

Jumping the brown/white(awd ground) wire in the speedo harness to the harness brown or a common ground area is usually meant to restore lost awd function but not usually for the speed and mileage accumulation if you are still experiencing that. But who knows, worth a shot if you do the bypass to see if the speedo comes does back to life.If it doesn't then it's still probably the hall effect sensor has shorted.

I'm not too worried about the speedo or the odometer working , I just need my awd to work for this weekend. Hopefully by grounding out the brown/white wire will restore the awd , cuz like I said it kicks in aslong as I'm holding the override button !

Ok I grounded out the wire and my awd indicator wouldn't pop up on my cluster , I hooked the wire back up to harness and it pops on ! I'm puzzled about this now

Main thing is does it have awd?Jack up all 4 wheels and test or run it up against a tree or post. Awd indicator may not show up on the speedo because you're bypassing/grounding the brown /white wire before it gets to the speedo head.

Here is a link from "Tater Tot" who actually fixed one (With pics)https://atvconnection.com/forums/pol...-t-work-2.html
If its just the wheel sensor (Hall Effect) you AWD will still work. The only thing that works if its the Hall Effect sensor is the hour meter and speedo light.
