1995 Polaris 300 2x4
Hello,
I've had a 95 Polaris 300 (2 stroke) for several years now; bought it from my brother in law in about 2007 and he had owned since about 1996-97. It has been gently used for the most part, but with that, it has sat up for periods of time over the years. I can always rely that it will start, even after 6 months of sitting. Two pulls on the string and always fires up!
There are a few issues with it that I would like to fix.
1. I am almost 100% certain that the oil injection pump is inoperable, or likely just gummed up. I have been mixing fuel myself at about 40:1. The oil level in the reservoir never has dropped in all these years that I have owned it. I have located where the pump is at. Is there an easy way to take it off to clean/check it? With it not pumping anything, can I just continue to mix my own fuel without any problems?
2. Two of the wingnuts that hold the cover on the air filter are locked/rusted on there and the whole bolt spins. I may just need to cut them off and get new ones.
3. There may be a bit of a leak from the transmission but I haven't determined where it is coming from. If it is coming from the pulley side (Variable Transmission pulley system), is that a royal pain to repair myself? Should I find a local mechanic to take care of this? I'm a semi-mechanical guy, but no pro!
I hope to have this ATV ready to go for an upcoming fair and rodeo in April 2016.
Thanks for your replies!

Keep premixing the fuel as some early models had plastic oil drive gears that could melt and cause problems. Only way to tell is to remove the pump and pull the drive gear, but best to pull the engine to do it.. You can match up these carriage bolts and wing nuts at any good hardware store. If you really want to get it going and checked out,get this cheap manual so you wont have to guess on stuff..http://visit.tradebit.com/visit.php/...75/264162958/9

Here's a post from another member that had problems on the plastic drive gear on the early year model 300s. https://atvconnection.com/forums/pol...ive-stuck.html
