Default 2011 sportsman 550 Eps relay

So I was out riding in some hectic terrain and after half a day or so my power steering light came on and he Eps just stopped working.

After reading up on the problem, I checked the relay by the gas tank and found it to be pretty messey. Corroded temrinal and when I test it 8 can't get it to 'click' or give me a resistance reading. So my conclusion is that it is garbage.

Do you guys get your relays from Polaris or will any 4 pin relay (12v and 34A) work?

Take one in to any auto supply and see if you can match it up. They're less than 11 bucks here + shipping, but you may be able to get them cheaper. Item#2.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

I went to to two auto stores, an auto electric shop and an electronics supply store and the cheapest place was the Polaris dealership by $10. I got the relay for $20 and they had it in stock. I figured I would buy that and save my gas and time. I will find it online and buy another as a spare.

nooooo...the dang power steering light is on again. It stayed off for a while and today while I was doing some work around the yard, it popped back on. It stayed on for a bit and then sent off again. In all, it went on and off 5 times. When I turned if off and put it away, it was off again.

Any ideas?

I figured that maybe...

1. The relay receptacle is corroded as well.
2. The whole eps harness needs to be replaced.
3. Voltage issue and the eps is kicking off.

Rather than guess and throw parts at it that may not solve the light coming on and off,I'd spend the 1 hr labor charge in most cases for Digital Wrench to track it down. Times like this running diagnostics can actually save you time, money and head scratching.

Is a digital wrench the same thing as an OBD2 reader? If so, where does it plug in?

Thanks

Better than just a code reader or scanner. Wiring shorts, problems etc may not even throw codes, the diagnostic software does a complete check of the machines functions from the ecu on down. They're out there and getting cheaper. OTB has them, but at 600 bucks, cheaper to pay 75/85 bucks at a dealer.https://otbpowersports.com/product/ct-pol-afedxz-001/

Ha....after a summer of driving with the light on, I finally got another relay just to see if that was the issue. Took it all apart and noticed 1) Polaris gave me the wrong relay. 2) my I'd relay was unplugged

Plugged it back in and now it is working again.

Funny how that goes....

Strange as all five of the relays show to be the same part number. Must have given you one for a different year model or something? 2011 Polaris SPORTSMAN TOURING EPS 550 (A11DX55AF/AZ) Electrical, Harness | Cycle Parts Warehouse For future reference this may help if you have another relay problems."Polaris part number: 4011283"
GM part number for the relay is 1 of 3 numbers at you local auto parts store.......13500113, 19116962, D1777C. Cost me $3.18 at Napa auto vs $11 at my dealership. Relay will work for chassis, efi, fan, fuel pump and EPS."
