Default 900 Sport or Trail Razor?

Considering trade up on a Razor. Awe stricken with them after my weekend at Hatfield and McCoy.

I would prefer the wider stance 60" but need honest assessment of the 50" trail version. What are the real benefits? Costs? In looking for safer trail ride on hills and rock and hard pack with my knee/leg problem as to why I am now considering a Razor.

Thanks for help!

If you don't have any trails you anticipate riding that are limited to 50", like some of the Paiute Trail and others, go with the S or XP. The suspensions are much better at soaking in the bumps. The 50" RZR doesn't have as much suspension travel. Seeing more and more RZR's out on the trails than ever before.

good info MH! Yea the trails in PA and around have 50" limits. So I am wondering how to make my choices. I want to test drive one. Well see how it goes.

The 570 in the 50" width RZR isn't super powerful. Probably better at our elevations on the East Coast than the ones my son and his buddy rented out in Paiute Trail country. They did pretty well around town at 6000 ft. but didn't have much left at 10000 ft. I'd go with the 900 if I were buying one.

I have been running the 50" wildcat here in wny and it works great, even on the off camber stuff. Wheel spacers or an extra set of wider wheels for those instances you can be wider can help. Suspension travel is lower than the wider machines, and a lot of these need at least aftermarket springs to ride well. I would have no problem buying a 50" rzr for our areas.

Moose, the 50" Rzr also has the optional 900 engine, detuned to 75 hp, just like the 900 sport. I think it would have plenty of get up and go. I would look at the Wildcat Trail too. The 700 twin in the Wildcat Trail doesn't make much less power than the Polaris 900 and they cost quite a bit less. Basically you can buy a Wildcat Trail with eps for what a Rzr 900 Trail costs without it. Yes you do give up some suspension travel in the 50" machines. That's where the extra width comes from anyway, wider suspension components. Polaris used a make a 55" wide Rzr 900 as well. It was called an xc model I think. That might be one you would want to inquire about. I don't think it sold very well because it still was too wide for 50" trails so if you didn't need 50" access, most would just get the 60" sport model. 2015 Polaris RZR 900 XC Edition SxS. I think I see why it didn't sell well, it actually costs more than the 60" sport model that has more suspension travel. The XC appears to be only available as a special edition with black plastic and aftermarket wheels, which I guess account for the added cost. The 2016 and 2017 models were the same price.

That's the one I was thinking of. The 570 was fairly close to the old 800 but didn't have as much top end. The newer RZR 900 trail model has tons of power. It's what I'd buy if I was in the market for a side by side.

I'm waiting to see if Can-Am introduces a 50" side by side in the next few months. It was reported recently they would introduce a new model each 6 months for the next 3 years. The Defender was first, The X3 was latest. So pure utility and all all out sport performance are covered. I'm guessing a 50" model might be next. Put the 85hp Commander 1000 engine in it and you'd have a class leader. I'm sure it would be speed governed to about 65 mph like both the Wildcat Trail and Rzr 900 Trail as that seems to be the max speed allowed for a 50" model. But it would be quicker for sure. Even the HD10 engine making 72 hp would be a great choice. It makes a ton of low end torque and in a much lighter 50" machine, it would be very quick. There could even be a less expensive entry level model with the HD8 engine to compete against the Rzr 570.

Tried the RZR and its nice machine but not going to work
for me. Hard to fit with my knee. I tried my Uncles ACE and
now considering getting an ACE 900. 2017 XC looks sweet!

Thoughts and opinions on the new 900 xc 2017 ACE?

Cheers,

I've seen video of the new 2017 Ace 900. Suspension travel is extreme but because of the extreme width, I think most people will be turned off by it. Its 59" wide vs 48" for the standard Ace. No 50" trail access with the new xc. It does get the 78 hp prostar 900 engine though. So it will be fast. As long as have trails wide enough to ride it on. If you want a single seat machine, I'd look at the Scrambler 850 or 1000.
