Default sportsman 600/700 oil filters?

does anyone know of a different filter that I can use other than the polaris oil filter thats $12.00 each. I am not going to use a K&N filter either. I can't find a part number for wix. does anyone use something else other than the polaris filter? please let me know if anyone has a different brand with a cheaper price.

Default sportsman 600/700 oil filters?

well I guess I should have maybe done a little more investigation before making a topic but atleast it may help others out with the same problem.

I did a search in the polaris forum under oil filter and seen alot of guys talking of using a napa 1356, 1357, 1358 filter. I crossed this to a wix number 51356, 51357, 51358. I then crossed the wix filter to an STP oil filter number S6607which autozone carries. the wix numbers 51356 and 51357 both came up with the S6607 number and the 51358 came up with a completely different number. I also looked at both the napa website and the wix website. the only difference I seen in all the filters was the Micron flow number which was 8 on the fillters ending in 7 and 8. the filters ending with a 6 have a Micron flow number of 8-11 which lets more oil flow through the filter. this in return helps cool the oil and doesn't let to much pressure build up in your filter. too small of a micron flow number can cause your oil filter to burst or blow up.

autozone carries the STP filter #S6607 and it is $3.79, a huge difference from the polaris oem filter that runs $12.00

Here is a little more info on the filter choices.

The AC Delco # is a PF1222. This is also the duragard filter media. Dealer cost is $3.18 so pricing will be in the $5.25 to $6.00 range. The Napa gold and Carquest blue filters are made by wix and use a better media than the Napa silver and carquest red brands.(i.e cheaper) I think it was on this forum that there was a link to a study about The different filters out there. They rated the wix and it's variants quite high along with the Delco filters. I have worked for GM for 20 yrs and have never seen a filter related failure. But have seen quite a few with the cheap filter(Fram, stp, pennzoil ect.)
Like the saying goes " You can pay me a little now or pay me alot later".
Hope this helps

if u guys are worried about a 12 dollar filter on a $10000 dollar bike, ur in the wrong sport. most guys complain about the cost of oil and repair parts to fix and maintain ur bikes, but have no problem throwing thousands on performance parts that the truth be told only deteriate the life of the machine. I know the cost of simple thing like a 12 dollar filter is robery I doo agree, but the polaris and k&n are good quality and I dont mind spending money on quality..
Also the engines are tested with that filter on the unit, proven reliable, whe steere from the given.

I work for an Auto parts store, and I have people coming in all the time with this oil filter looking for a cheaper alteritve to the dealer. I carry wix, and the part #51357 is the direct replacement. I use this filter on my Sportsman 600, and have no problems. I also contacted my dealership to confirm that this was the filter, and they said yes it is, and it won't void any warrenties. Cost is around $7.00 per filter. And Wix filter is the #1 filter in NASCAR for all you NASCAR fans out there.
