Indiana Dealers can not SELL a used ATV without a title, effective Jan 1, 2006.

This means you have to register and get a title to appreciate the full value when you go to sell it. It makes it impossible to trade it in if you don't pay the tax and register it and get a title. In addition, they are "encouraging" all atv's to be registered with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. I found out the whole scope of things a few weeks ago when I bought an MV7 and wanted to trade in my 02 Sportsman 700. I ended up keeping it since I'll use it anyhow, but it does make it much harder to get around paying the sales tax. It used to be that you'd buy you ATV's and dirtbikes in Illinois and vise versa, they come here to buy them. Now if I go to Illinois, they collect the Indiana tax there. They are doing the same with cars and trucks. This spring I bought a Hummer H1 down in Kentucky and the dealer wanted to collect Indiana tax on it.......I said NO WAY. They finally gave in because they didn't know the proper paperwork to fill out. I did pay the tax when I registered and plated it, I just didn't want any problems with Indiana saying they never got the tax money and becoming a hassle with a dealer that was 250 miles away.

In IL. had to pay a flat $25.00 out of state sales tax and another $75.00 to get it titled ... I also bought mine from TN ... over all saved $1100.00.
