Mine uses oil too. I have not kept track of how much I have to put in but I think I will this season. I was wondering the same thing about oil useage. I broke mine in the same way. I have a 2002 SP 700 that doesn't use any oil. I think I have about 1200 miles on mine. I only use the Polaris oil.

Hi all,
I am a new member. I have a 660 grizzly yamaha and my son has a predator 500 polaris. Both use a small amount of oil between changes. Plugs are not fouling, engines not smoking so it seems ok so far on both machines. I asked around with the folks I ride with on most of the major brands of atv's and probably 60% of them say they use at least some oil, most don't like to admit that!! Some use synthetic (mobil one)or other , some use factory oil, I am using Shell rotella T universal 15w-40. It is all good quality stuff whatever you choose and I have concluded the machines will run fine if the fluid level is kept up and oil is changed when due for it.

My 500 uses a little between changes. not enough to worry me. A good friend of mine has an 2005 800 that uses a little between changes also. He said between changes he maybe adds a cup total to keep it full. If its in small amounts, I wouldnt worry to much. I think you will find most probably use some! Just keep it full and clean and you will be fine!
I also use Rotella, I use their Rotella T synthetic 5w40. Its been proven to be one of the best oils and you can get a gallon for $14.00. I have been using it in everything I own for about 5 years now. My work truck goes 12-15000 miles between changes. I recently bought a new truck cause my old one had 350,000 miles on it and started falling apart, except the motor. Still ran as strong as ever.
