Pull plug first, then check starter/pull rope, check oil tank for overfill/gas contamination. If still hard with recoil with plug out,PROBLEMS! Is battery good, check starter with 12 volts directly to top solenoid lead.

Bendix can lock up on flywheel causing to feel like engine problems, NOW with more info this is what it sounds like to me! Have had same thing happen at times to customers! If worn replace or grease and check that it spins out and retracts easily. Good luck.

Pull recoil first and check out ! Easy to get out and inspect before buying new one. Good luck

Yes at the top, cant miss it,just wiggle out, dont loose washer at back ! If teeth worn,REPLACE Just pull floorboard screws, pull out and prop to get at 8 mm bolts, bottom bolt a little hard, but you can do it,tap on cover or yank on pull rope and will break seal, silicone cover upon reinstalling! may or may not have to disconnect linkage arms. Once you have done it,next time will be easy! manuals handy, best way to learn is hands on! Good luck
