Hey guys my 07 800 has had a pretty significant sputtering problem the past few months. when im driving at low rpms between {1500-4500} the atv sputters and "bounces" up and down in the front end when your drving. Im thinking it has to be bad wiring somewhere or a connection because i already changed the plugs out to NGK BKR7E's. At the same time this started my solenoid started clicking 3-4 times before it actually caught and started the atv. Would the solenoid have anything to do with this problem. Maybe corroded or bad contacters from the battery.

 

I know someone has to have some input on this

 

Check for a loose ground. Do the lights flicker at all while the sputter takes place?

 

Could be a multitude of things. Can you be more specific? Does it only do it when cruising along at one speed(ie how does it accelerate?) Does it go away above 4500 RPM? Have you checked for codes? When did it start(ie after some maintenance or riding through water ect ect)Have you checked the battery voltage with the machine running? If the voltage to the ecm/ignition/fuel system is dropping off it will greatly affect the way the engine runs and can cause your symptoms. Also could be bad gas...Need some more info to narrow down the possibilities.

 

I know this sounds strange, but I had almost the exact same problem on my 500 and it turned out that the rubber ring around my air filter had come loose and got sucked up inside the box........just a suggestion, I know issues like that are a pain in the backside to diagnose....good luck.

 

High Octane, It only does it when cruising slow speed betwween 0 to maybe 30 or 35. After that it goes away but i think its because u cant notice the elctrical sputter as the revolutions get higher. Do you know what im trying to say. Also i ride at least 2 times a week so its not bad gas. It threw a barometric pressure code at me a couple months back but it has since went away. On the diagnostics the voltage seems fine. Any other possibilities?

 

Put a can of sea foam in the gas tank, you might have water or something pluging things up.

 

putting a can of sea foam into that machine would likely take the rings out. a CAN is to much, about 2 oz MAX. if you put to much in you will wash the cylinder wall of oil, this stuff doesn't burn off fast enough. I had a friend that thought seafoam was the ****, until he put half a can into his raptor 660, 30 miles later he I had to rebuild his motor, crankshaft and all, motor was fine before riding, he used sea foam to clean his fuel system. it only cost him 1000 dollars to learn that the hard way.

 

I have seen T-BAP sensor or tps sensor wire harnesses cause problems, usually the wire breaks inside of the wire casing, but it is not visible from the outside. also have seen them actually rub through the casing of the wire and short against other components in compartment. both of these will cause the issue you described. I have replaced t-bap harnesses about 25 times this year, replaced two just this week. polaris does use currogated tubing over wires but they cut it about 3 or 4 inches to short so there is just enough exposed wire to cause problems.

none of these would have anything to do with your solenoid clicking, check battery connections

 

check all connections for corrosion for sure on the solnoide clicking.
