It's a 2 stroke... Mine is a '92 and has a separate tank for the 2-cycle oil just below the headlight. Looks like yours has a tank next to the gas tank...

Sounds like you are on the right track. Empty the old gas, clean the carb, replace the spark plug, check for spark...

No idea on an owners manual, I've got a Clymer manual on order right now.

Good Luck!

Jim

Thankyou Jim. I figured it was a 2 stroke cuz of the oil reserve like u said but I wanted to be safe. And would you happen to know if mine has (drive neutral and park) or (drive neutral and reverse). The stickers by the shift **** are all scratched up.

If it's been sitting that long, and being that old, I'd do a compression test too. If it's below 90psi, it's time for a rebuild. And since you have to take the carb and all that stuff off, it would save you cleaning it all, putting it back on, finding out the compression is low and having to do it all over again.

The manuals are getting harder to find due to it's age. I know some places you can still download the parts (not service) manual. That's a good thing to have as the parts breakdown is really handy to look at. There may be some places that have the free service manual, you may want to do a search on that here. Can't say that model is in there, but there have been several different ones.

Hope you have it running soon.

It would be Drive neutral and reverse, not parking gear in a Polaris until at least 2005. If it has a low,it would be shift forward while throwing the shifter out towards the right.

Thanks Doesnt the engine need to be running to do a compression test. Or can I just turn the motor by hand?

I have the same machine, but 4wd. Unless the shifters are different on the 2wd and 4wd models, all the way forward is High, then Reverse, Neutral, and all the way back is Low.
