I think NC is going to be about the same. Maybe what I need to do is peel all of the Polaris stickers off of it and tell them it's custom built in my garage, and maybe I can get it inspected and passed as a custom On-Road Vehicle?! It's really their loss, I'm willing to pay taxes, title, registration, tags, etc, but they won't let me.

I suppose one could get a suzuki samurai, S10 or a Yugo for that matter, remove the firewall and dash and graft them into the dash of the dash of the SxS and use the VIN of the donor vehicle.
I know in my area guys are known to drop 70s and 80s truck bodies onto brand new trucks that have been rolled or cosmetically totaled. You can then insure them as an older truck, license them as an older truck and pay taxes on them as an older truck. Between insurance, plates and personal property tax it can add up to thousands in savings a year.

Street Legal ATV's in Florida
I saw one today, I talked to the owner for a bit. He said he went to the DMV and they gave him a list of things. Beside the lights, street tires and such, the engine had to be street legal (off-road engines can not be made street legal). He used a Yam R6 motor.

the answer is no.
They are classed as a farm utility vehicle here.
You can cross roads if insured.
No plates can be issued, so not allowed on roads.
They dont comform to the legal definition of an "off road" vehicle.
Quebec has recently allowed a 3 year experiment with them on the
trail systems.
Some trail systems and maybe some villiages allow them.
They just did a recent blitz in an area near where i live,
and a lot of people that were driving on the roads with them got fined
as well many were not wearing helmets.
(another misconception around here)
The law will be hopefully be changed soon to allow them on the trail systems here. Providing they are not wider than the widest current 4wheeler.

We can legally ride the secondary roads OPP's and other Police cars pass me all the time even our atv club trails use the roads right into town and Tim Hortons . I leave my driveway never trailer dam I ride to Tim Hortons every few days Our township and most others around have passed bylaws allowing atv's on secondary roads . http://www.sbpatvclub.ca/85010902.pdf Maybe where you live you can't but where I live I can .
