Default Voltage issue

Hey gang, been a while since i been on, hope all is well with everyone. I am still running the ole' 1999 Sportsman 500. We had about 6 inches of snow last night so i took it out. Been noticing an issue for a while now and last night it was very noticeable:

I noticed the speedometer, tailight, lights, and basically anything electrical will be running fine then will either dim out or start flickering like a seizure. If i am driving while it does this and stop to let it idle, it seemed to correct itself but the moment i throttle down it started again. Now, this may only last about 30 seconds then boom, all the lights brighten up and work fine.... for about another 2-3 minutes. SOmetimes if i am at idle it will do this and if i throttle down it will make it stop. So its hit and miss on how to make it do this so to speak.

I tested voltage at idle and with lights on it was metering at 10-12 volts last night. Giving it thottle helped but slightly. I metered the battery when the electronics started spazzing out while at idle and the voltage dropped to 8 volts.

This morning i did not have the lights on, only my handwarmers and the battery at idle metered at 12.5 volts. What could this be? I was thinking alternator but never heard of one acting like this.
Oh yeah, the AWD seemed to act like everything else, would NOT work when the lights dimmed out but would when everything brighten up.

Voltage could be erratic, spiking from the regulator. If it doesn't get at least 13 volts from the regulator,I'd suspect it or even the battery. Have the battery load tested first to eliminate it.Plus another common thing was wiring at the regulator pulling out,but usually it was the red wire and batteries wouldn't charge. If you suspect a regulator, you can get them pretty cheap on ebay and other places.Plus they've been updated, old number 4060173,new one 2203636. This one shows it will work if you need one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rectifier-Regulator-FITS-POLARIS-ATV-4060173-2203636-NEW-/270668566659?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f051a9083&vxp=mtr
