Default 2007 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO EFI

I was looking at a 2007 Polaris 500 efi with 657 hours. The guy says it runs rough, it looks like its in fair shape. He wants $1800 OBO, is this a good deal? I know nothing of the efi systems on atvs, so would it be a easy fix? Is a 2007 500 efi a reliable quad? Thanks in advance.

Running rough could be from chaffed sensor harness wiring which was a common problem on all the 500 efi models.Wiring is very thin, along with sensor connectors that the pins could back out on that would cause everything from rough idle, back firing to dieing with giving it a little throttle. Could be as simple as this, plus better harness repair kits are available from here. Only The Best He's asking lower than trade in at Kelly Blue Book, haven't check Nada. Could be a good deal or a money pit that you would have to take a chance on. Like they say condition says it all no matter what year model. If any doubts, walk as they're plenty more out there.Kelley Blue Book

Thanks old polaris tech, how simple is the wiring on these machines? I am leaning towards passing, I asked him if there are any cracks in the fenders and he said yes. Pictures always make things look better than they really are, I got to looking really hard on the rear fender where the muffler pipe goes by and it is all melted. So that makes me believe it has gotten hot, 657 hours also seems a little high to me. Like you said, there will always be others. What do you think?

Just my two cents on this. We had less trouble with the later Ho carb models than efi models. Most of the ecm problems early models had were resolved for the most part.Simpler the better for an old school guy like me.2008 Polaris Sportsman® 500 H.O. ATVs
