Polaris 700 Sportsman
I am new to the forum, I have 700 Sportsman, I am not sure the year, there is no spark. I have read other posts with similar problem, it turns over and all wiring seems good.
Here is the basic question I have, I have the switch set to run, I have it in park, and I turn the key, is there anything else I need to do to start the machine? Stupid huh, but I never had one before and when I bought it it didn't run.

If you have a 2002 to early 2004 carb model 700,the Ducati ignitions systems would fail. Some early, some later on.They've been replaced with Polaris kit part#2202602 which consists of a new stator, flywheel, cdi, coil, regulator, jumper wires and instructions.Another cheaper update system is out there ,but don't get it! Just replace the Ducati system with the Kokusan kit. Look under the front panel and see if you have the combo cdi/coil that says Ducati. Here's a good video on installation of this kit. Kit is around $450-500 at several web sites.

They had a lot of problems with the 700's.I have a 2007 and luckaly the problem stopped at 2006.Do a search for Polaris 700 Sportsman recalls and find your serial# on yours, they have a list.I believe u have a problem with ur charging system ECU or the other i believe is the BCU

Thank you both. I did find that I have the Ducati Coil pack.
Let me mention something else, of course I have no idea if it makes a difference, there was a Ramsey winch that had been installed and has been removed, I assume it had a remote from the looks of things. there are two switches - one on each side of the speedometer, I looked up the winch and it shows a fuse. Question could this wiring be responsible for any part of the problem. In other words I don't know if any of this wiring is used/replaced any of the original wiring? I mean when installing this type of winch does it call for using any of the existing wiring?
In some Polaris diagrams I have seen it looks like there is a black box in front of the radiator cap - voltage regulator(?) I don't have one, instead this is where the Ramsey winch box is located.
I have looked at the VIN, but have trouble reading it because of rust, Question where in the 17 digits would be the year?
I am on a small island down in the US Virgin Islands, so there is no ATV dealer or repair person - I really appreciate the help.

Ducati mainly says it all. 10th digit is the year model if you can read it.VIN-to-Year Chart - ALLDATA Support Regulator is located up close to the regulator unless previous owner relocated it.Doesn't matter on the year model on the kit(2002 to early 2004) kit is the same.Change out this system to the Kokusan kit #2202602 and hopefully your problems will be solved.

Fixed and thanks
I just wanted to report back, I followed your advice and bought the ignition package. I am not a mechanic, but I watched the video you suggested several times, in it, there are two tips that are not in the directions and essential. I took my time and followed the directions, put it back together and it fired right up - amazing! Thanks for the great help.
