Default yet another question..is this the original engine?

didnt notice until today but if you look at the pic my recoil pull string is at like a 10 o'clock position whereas my plastic above it shows the indent for the recoil at 12 o'clock position..i was told the top end was rebuilt and now im wondering if they just thru a dif year engine in it or just slapped a dif plastic on it...

Nope, looks like someone took a hack saw or snips to the exhaust shield for what ever reason they had.. The recoil on the Scramblers did tuck in to where you had to pull them out from under the shield. You are missing a bolt for the recoil housing at the top though. Item #18 is the the shield. Plus on the engine sticker are the first two digits of the number 00? If so,someone has installed at least a 2000 recoil cover, possibly a 2000 model engine??

Can't remember any exhaust shield like this on any model that had a cut out like this? Plus again does the sticker serial # on the recoil start out with 00 or 04,hard to tell?

Who knows, could be? But one thing for sure is someone installed a 2004 model recoil assembly on your 98 Scrambler.. The first two numbers on the recoil assembly sticker is the year model of the engine. Possible you have a later engine OR just the recoil off it..
